Carer Gateway Offers Free Services And Support For Carers

Need support caring for a loved one with brain cancer?

Caring for someone with a serious illness is challenging and stressful. Peace of Mind’s National Advocacy Service regularly recommends Carer Gateway to carers of brain cancer patients to support them in their role.

Carer Gateway is an Australian government service to help make life easier for carers. The service is free of charge to anyone in a caring role (regardless of income) and aims to provide emotional and practical services and support.

The service is connected with an Australia-wide network of Carer Gateway service providers.

Service and support include:

  • In-person and online peer support groups – share stories, knowledge, and experience with other carers

  • Tailored support packages – planned respite and transport services to help you in your caring role

  • In-person and phone counselling – if you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed a counsellor can speak with you in person or over the phone

  • Online skills courses – to support your well-being and know your legal responsibilities

  • Access to emergency respite – if you suddenly can’t provide care due to illness or injury, service providers will find ways to look for help until you recover

To access Carer Gateway, call 1800 422 737. A representative will register you and start the planning process, talking you through what you need and helping you find local services and support.
